ABOUT
Slime can ooze between your fingers when you pick it up, yet doesn’t stick to your skin. It comes in a variety of colors and even a few different textures. You can add fragrance, glitter, foam beads and colored beads to your slime when you order. At times it acts like a liquid, but at other times it appears to be a solid. It can be made to glow in the dark, or fluoresce under a black light.

How Does it Work? The Borax powder dissolves in water into sodium ions, Na+, and tetraborate ions. Hydrogen bonds form between the borate ion and the OH groups of the polyvinyl alcohol molecules from the glue, linking them together to form a new polymer (slime). So, there you have it! The science behind the slime that we all love! There are numerous ways to make slime, but the end result is always a cool concoction that can provide hours of fun, act as a great stress reliever, and provide a platform for learning many important chemical principles.

Concerns about Borax:

If you're using full-strength Borax and not diluting it properly, then it's going to irritating to your skin. One 8 oz container of my slime has 1/8 of a teaspoon of 20 Mule Borax that has been properly dissolved in water. If you make slime by following the recipe carefully — with an adult — it could make the difference between safe playtime and having irritated skin or burns. Children should not play with slime if they have sensitive skin issues like eczema, dermatitis, inflammation issues, or allergies to lotions, soaps or fragrances. Children should always wash their hands after handling slime.

According The Chemical Company, (An international distributor of chemicals) Borax, sodium tetraborate decahydrate, is not acutely toxic. A significant dose of the chemical is needed to cause severe symptoms. Sufficient exposure to Borax dust can cause respiratory and skin irritation. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal distress.

Warning!
Slime is recommended for ages 8 & up. Always monitor children while playing with slime. Keep out of reach of children who put their hands in their mouth. Please do not purchase if you feel you may have an allergic reaction to household products such as: shaving cream, very small amounts of Borax, Soap, fragrance oils, scented lotions, or food coloring. I value your safety. Keep away from eyes and mouth. Keep your slime away from pets, clothes, carpet, and furniture. See my Tips page for how to clean up fabric and carpet.
Slime is NOT edible! Please do not eat!
